Our wiki should be a resource that every one of our users can go to when they need help, for bugs, or mods, or anything about Oblivion. At the moment it is sorely lacking, and we'd like to remedy that. If you want to help us out, please send us a message so we can add you as a contributor!
If we see you commenting thoughtfully, we'll probably send you a message first, but unfortunately we don't see everyone. Being a contributor even has a few special perks, but they're a secret for the moment. Again, this is a resource the entire community should be able to learn from, and we really need your help. Regarding Bugs: Quite often on this sub we get users who ask for help for bugs, or with mods, that have been solved before. To reduce this clutter, we have a link search filter. To save everyone some time, try searching for bugs that might be similar to any you are having. Remember to add keywords if your problem is a specific one. Please subscribe and read our sidebar before you post! Explain it like I'm retarded. I'm installing the UOP's (SI, OB, DLCs), and the readme says Manual installation of this or any other mod is STRONGLY discouraged.
You should make use of Wrye Bash if at all possible I've been googling and can't find a simple, step by step guide to install via Wrye Bash. I take the zip and put it in Common/Oblivion Mods/Bash Installers (and tried to go further by placing in Bash) but the mod doesn't show up in the installers tab in WB. I figured out Archive Invalidation by getting, but the top post says it's unnecessary for WB. I'm so confused. So far I've installed BOSS, OBSE, and a few other engine fixes from Aventine's list, but I need help before I go further and screw up my install after hours of work.
Yes, I have googled and used the search bar. Apologies for flooding the sub with technical questions. Open Wrye BASH, select the Installers tab (the leftmost one), and try throwing your UOPs (archive files you've downloaded) right there.
They should be available for installation, even if your installers path isn't the default one. For an in-depth understanding of Wrye BASH, there's a guide on nexusmods: Once you've got a grip of it, using Wrye BASH becomes a breeze. As for archive invalidation, you still should invalidate archives using OBMM (Utilities - Archive invalidation - Reset BSA timestamps - Update).

Rascal flatts still feels good rar. With that, you probably won't need a special plugin just for this. And there's nothing bad in being overwhelmed with the Oblivion modding. I've had moments like this when I decided to dust it off a month or so ago. It sounds like you are very new to modding.
In this case, and especially since you are only installing a few mods, I recommend using Oblivion mod manager. Is the one I used that taught me how to use OBMM fluently. Over time I needed something more technical for more mods, so I have switched over to Wrye Bash. Some mods actually require OBMM, though, so it's a good tool to have around. If you really want to use Wrye Bash for some reason, watch.
It is the opening to a series on installing FCOM, and explains very thoroughly how to properly install Wrye Bash and use its more basic functions. The series is slightly outdated, so the things you need to install will be different, updated versions, but the gist is there. I learned 45% of what I know about modding Oblivion from this series, and still reference it from time to time. The other 55% of what I know is from actually modding the game time and time again. It comes with experience; don't get discouraged. Modding is a lot of fun! But again, I would strongly recommend to you that you not go as complex as Wrye Bash yet, IMHO it seems like overkill in your situation.
In the end, it's up to you. Edit: and don't feel bad about asking for help!
Oblivion is a complex beast of a game, and it can be kind of finicky about how things are done. Since you are only installing a few mods I've got roughly 50 mods, which sort of balloons a bit with Unique Landscapes and Better Cities, their related codependent patches, and patches for Battlehorn Upgraded.
I know that the more mods, the less stable but I consider at least UL to be essential to my experience. IMHO it seems like overkill in your situation I'm only using it because it gets recommended all over the place. However, I found in Morrowind, even though Wrye Mash was similarly recommended by everybody I got everything done more easily with TESTool, manual install, and hand-editing the.ini file. Is a screenshot of the mods I'm planning to use. It looks like OBMM is much easier to use and could probably get all this in, but I wanted to see if you saw anything in there that needs Wrye Bash specifically.
Just looking over the list there's a few I don't recognize, but most I've seen and used before. Thanks ones I don't recognize I can sort of guess on l, though.
If I recall correctly, Character Overhaul is a pain in the ass to do with OBMM, but I may be think of something else. I'd do that one with Wrye Better Cities I would also do with Wrye. It can be done with OBMM, but I believe it's quicker and you get more options with Wrye. Definitely use Wrye for UL compilation. Just a lot to sort through, you can pick and choose what you want more easily in Wrye Bash. Blockhead, Fast Exit, Silent Voice, OSR, and MenuQue are all OBSE plugins and have to be done manually, it's a painless process though. I think autosaver and MoreHeap are both also OBSE Barter Gold is actually sort of a redundant mod.
You can achieve the same thing by using the console; when you are in the buy/sell screen with a merchant, open the console and type SetBarterGold x, where x= amount of gold you want them to have, with a max of like 65000 Unlimited Train and Unlimited Rings and Amulets are also sort of redundant, Wrye Bash has a neat function called Bashed Patch. There's an option you can use that enables both of these.
May edit a bit later for more stuff, this is all I have time for at the moment. I've got most of the OBSE plug-ins done already, I'm at the DLC UOP section at the moment, planning on getting back to modding some time tomorrow. I used to use NMM to install OCO and UL, but I've never used BC before so I guess I should install via WM since they have so many patches between them. You can achieve the same thing by using the console But I don't want to use the console, I'd rather have a painless, non-immersion breaking experience. Wrye Bash has a neat function called Bashed Patch. What does a Bashed Patch do? Is it like the Morrowind Code Patch?
Thanks again, and please keep guiding me along on this. Morrowind Code Patch Not sure, I've never modded Morrowind. Bashed Patch essentially helps make your mods run smoothly together, tailored specifically to your mod lineup. It also has a section titled 'Tweaks' where you can do all kinds of things like Unlimited Rings, Jump Higher, removing the Vampire face bug. Lots of useful stuff. Helps you make Oblivion run the way you want it to. Amazing bit of software, imo.
When you first startup Wrye Bash, it should automatically add an.esp called Bashed Patch. Right click it and choose 'Rebuild Patch.' Make sure you have your load order right or it might get upset with you. That series i mentioned earlier at some point walks you through the build for it. Another nice thing about Wrye Bash is the Saves tab (should be at the top with Installers and Mods). It analyzes your saves and tells you what.esp and.esm files that save relies on. Well so what?
This is very handy if your Oblivion setup blows it's brains out in the middle of your playthrough and you have to start from scratch. This way you'll have an exact list of what you need to pick up from where you had to stop 93 page manual Damn, nice. I really ought to do something similar for Oblivion, I know some day I'll want to come back to it and will have forgotten how. If I ever get around to actually modding Morrowind I'll probably need the help. Would have done Morrowind already but Oblivion is heroin to me, I'm addicted and can't get away from playing it.
Someday, though.
Now the game won't even start when I play after I rebuilt the bashed patch in the mods tab in Wrye Bash. It doesn't even go to the opening or anything the screen just goes black for a second then stops.
This happens when I try playing with the bashed patch on and I need to have it on for the mods to work. Should I just give up and uninstall the entire game and mods and reinstall? Luckily I have a mod free save data backed up.
Edit: I got things working normally again I think but now the spell icons in my game is weird now, I've had the midas magic mod which has worked fine and gave me no trouble but now that I also got the supreme magicka mod on as well I think it is what is screwing with the spell icons. The midas used to look like those burden spells that were a round purple bottle shape but is now some weird white circle. Some spells don't even have icons, will this end up being bad in the long run or is it something I shouldn't care about? Some spells don't even have icons, will this end up being bad in the long run or is it something I shouldn't care about? That's a 'feature' of supreme magicka and a few other mods.
Wrye Bash Oblivion
Oblivion actually had an icon for scripted spells but the vanilla game never implemented it. Instead scripted spells by default use the burden icon.
Wrye Bash Guide
There are a few mods that fix that. As for the bashed patch, I'm not sure what happened.
You do need to rebuild your bashe patch anytime you change your mod list or load order.
